I'm definitely an author. Because I've just caught my stories being plagiarized on this Harry/Hermione site. Same name, all of my Harry Potter stories posted (minus one of them) posted there. The site glitched for a moment giving all of my stories the same posting date which creeped me out for a second because it told me that Missing Her was posted before it was ever written. Then I pressed refresh and the dates made sense.
They say that imitation is a form of flattery, and it could be because I'm already having a shitty day, but fuck, I'm pissed. I contacted the site, so hopefully eveything turns out okay.

Date: 2009-05-27 01:11 am (UTC)Kick their butts, Sophie! Plagiarism = wrong. Shame on them. I hope that site helps you out as best as they can.
Of course, this is probably what sucks about writing fanfic and posting it online; there is no real protection from people who want to steal your hard work, because it's not published and protected by copyright in that way.
That must have been so frustrating and weird to see online without your name on it. :S

Date: 2009-05-27 02:32 am (UTC)It's flattery, it's just plain rude
And it sucks when fan things get stolen since they tend to be a bit harder to get removed from sites. Best of luck, though.

Date: 2009-05-27 02:07 pm (UTC)It's a shame, huh? I never thought it would happen to me since my Harry Potter stuff isn't the best (most of it is from when I was just starting out) and if anything, I thought it would be my Bones stories if anything! At least I can look at most of those without cringing.

Date: 2009-05-27 03:02 am (UTC)Imitation is a form of flattery. Somone who is inspired to write something similar to you or based on something you wrote, but making it entirely their own. That is not imitation, however. That is STEALING!! Not the same thing.
Grrrr.....well, I'm sorry that you had to deal with that :/ *HUGS*

Date: 2009-05-27 02:11 pm (UTC)Stupid people suck. Some friends and I have a code where when we want to talk about boys, we say BAS (Boys are Stupid). This is a total case of PAS.

Date: 2009-05-27 02:14 pm (UTC)I checked out the community and joined, so if the site doesn't do anything, I plan to make a case. Though, "The Case Against LadySophieKitty" is going to be pretty weird looking. Why couldn't this person make up their own username?

Date: 2009-05-27 05:26 pm (UTC)Yeah, usually. There's always someone out there that's plagiarizing vids, though. If I looked hard enough, I could find my editing under someone else's name. I save myself heartache and don't look.
stop_plagiarism has helped me in the past with vids. They only do fic stealing now and they are good at it, so good luck.

Date: 2009-05-27 02:19 pm (UTC)I hope so too, though it would probably be a lot easier if the bitch hadn't stolen my username as well. >_

Date: 2009-05-28 08:28 pm (UTC)When I was a mod on an Alias website we caught a girl actually plagirizing a novel by Judy Blume (or some famous author). She had taken it from a website and done a "replace all" with the names and was posting weekly updates. No surprise it had rave reviews until someone who loved the real book realised. What a silly cow!!!
Hope the site runners do something about it sweetie. You should be flattered but it is damned annoying - I feel your pain!!!
