I'm definitely an author. Because I've just caught my stories being plagiarized on this Harry/Hermione site. Same name, all of my Harry Potter stories posted (minus one of them) posted there. The site glitched for a moment giving all of my stories the same posting date which creeped me out for a second because it told me that Missing Her was posted before it was ever written. Then I pressed refresh and the dates made sense.

They say that imitation is a form of flattery, and it could be because I'm already having a shitty day, but fuck, I'm pissed. I contacted the site, so hopefully eveything turns out okay.

Ouch. I hate theft... fan stuff is harder to get removed... I hope it turns out in your favor!

It's really awful. Thanks, I hope so too.

*shakes fist*

Kick their butts, Sophie! Plagiarism = wrong. Shame on them. I hope that site helps you out as best as they can.

Of course, this is probably what sucks about writing fanfic and posting it online; there is no real protection from people who want to steal your hard work, because it's not published and protected by copyright in that way.

That must have been so frustrating and weird to see online without your name on it. :S

Actually, it's even weirder because they used my name! I never signed up for the site, and the only places I've posted anywhere after 2007 are: Portkey, LJ, fanfiction.net, and harrypotterfanfiction.net. This wasn't any of them, and there were stories I wouldn't have posted there if I had signed up because there wasn't any HHR in them (which is only what I would have posted, being an HHR site) or that I wouldn't post anywhere else anyway because I despise them.

Where are Whedon characters when you need them? They could kick their butts for me!

I hope so! If this doesn't work, I'll try to see what else I can do.

I've always hated when people brought up the "imitation is a form of flattery" and all that jazz. In elementary school, kids were always copying me (mainly in creative things like art or writing) and once I even cried after my teacher said that the kids were complimenting me by copying my artwork.
It's flattery, it's just plain rude

And it sucks when fan things get stolen since they tend to be a bit harder to get removed from sites. Best of luck, though.

Yeah, I guess I have too. Though I'm going to quote one of the below comments: "Imitation is a form of flattery. Somone who is inspired to write something similar to you or based on something you wrote, but making it entirely their own. That is not imitation, however. That is STEALING!! Not the same thing."

It's a shame, huh? I never thought it would happen to me since my Harry Potter stuff isn't the best (most of it is from when I was just starting out) and if anything, I thought it would be my Bones stories if anything! At least I can look at most of those without cringing.

Oh man! That totally SUCKS!!! Gah! Why are people so incredibly STUPID like that? It makes me SO MAD!!!! :P :P :P

Grrrr.....well, I'm sorry that you had to deal with that :/ *HUGS*

I've sure been inspired bunch of stories and authors. But if I've ever written anything too close to another's (which I haven't) then I sure would ask for permission before ever posting. And I certainly wouldn't just outright steal.

Stupid people suck. Some friends and I have a code where when we want to talk about boys, we say BAS (Boys are Stupid). This is a total case of PAS.

Report it to one of the anti-plagerism communities here on lj. stop_plagerism (or something like that) is a good one.

Ugh, i'm sorry that sucks. I've been there, only with vids, not fic. stop_plagiarism is a good place to go for that sort of thing, so good luck.

It's awful, huh? I'm sorry too about your videos. Did everything work out?

I checked out the community and joined, so if the site doesn't do anything, I plan to make a case. Though, "The Case Against LadySophieKitty" is going to be pretty weird looking. Why couldn't this person make up their own username?

Did everything work out?

Yeah, usually. There's always someone out there that's plagiarizing vids, though. If I looked hard enough, I could find my editing under someone else's name. I save myself heartache and don't look.

stop_plagiarism has helped me in the past with vids. They only do fic stealing now and they are good at it, so good luck.

Wow. That's awful! I wonder about this sort of thing happening all the time. It's frustrating - I hope the site takes them down and bans the "author".

I honestly never thought it would happen to me. I was so surprised that even though I know I've never signed up for that site or posted my stories there on the dates said (I stopped posting my fics anywhere except LJ, portkey, harrypotterfanfiction.com, and fanfiction.net after 2007) I tried to sign in with all the passwords I could have used, and then when that didn't work, I did the "please sent me the password" option putting in all of my past and present emails only to have nothing show up.

I hope so too, though it would probably be a lot easier if the bitch hadn't stolen my username as well. >_

I hope it all gets sorted out. I know how much my writing means to me, so I'd be pissed/upset if someone stole my work too.

*hugs*

Thanks, J. My Harry Potter stuff may not be my best work since I wrote it ages 11-14, but it still means something to me, so it really does annoy me. I spent so much time on those, and even now I'm working hard just to get that bit of a spark back.

*hugs back*

Congratulations for being good enough to be plagiarized.
In addition, I apologize that someone took credit for your work. That is pretty pathetic of the person if you ask me.

I hate that stuff like this goes on online.

When I was a mod on an Alias website we caught a girl actually plagirizing a novel by Judy Blume (or some famous author). She had taken it from a website and done a "replace all" with the names and was posting weekly updates. No surprise it had rave reviews until someone who loved the real book realised. What a silly cow!!!

Hope the site runners do something about it sweetie. You should be flattered but it is damned annoying - I feel your pain!!!
