Could you lovely people please tell me what's been happening on Merlin lately? (with an emphasis on Morgana and Arthur/Morgana please!)

I haven't watched since Crystal Cave, but I'm still curious.

Obviously there will be SPOILERS!

Morgana has basically become the witch from legend, apparently wholly evil and working with Morgause at every opportunity to take over Camelot since she has found out that she is secretly Uther's illegitimate daughter, and therefore has a claim to the throne.

The only people aware that she is practicing black magic were Gaius and Merlin until Gwen witnessed it too.

Recently Morgana had a dream where Gwen was being crowned Arthur's Queen and she arranged it so Uther would learn of Arthur and Gwen's feelings for each other. This almost got Gwen banished from the Kingdom and then burnt at the stake for being a witch and enchanting Arthur when he chose to leave with her.

Of course Merlin thwarts her every plan. After this didn't work, Morgause joined forces with a local warlord and created an army of immortals with which they attacked and took Camelot and put Morgana on the throne as the new Queen.

That brings you uptodate to just before the finale as I haven't watched that yet. If you're an old-Morgana fan you are probably disappointed, but I kind of relish her as evil!Morgana because the actress plays it with such flare and delicious darkness.

As for Arthur/Morgana there was an episode where Arthur told Merlin that Morgana was 'like a sister to him' so the show is clearly steering us with legend, towards Arthur/Gwen.

to add to this m & m (morgana and morgaue) have taken over Camelot, and are being total bitches. now that they have the cup of life and their immortal army has taken over they are having fun executing people. morgana set up a firing squad and made the remaining knights of Camelot swear loyalty to her. when they don't instead of firing on them she makes the squad fire on the people in the square. the whole while uther is watching from his cell. he ends up asking her why she killed innocents and she does the whole you did i hate you... it was AMAZING . the actress who plays her is sooo good at being full of cold icy fire of hate its.. well i tip my hat to her.

meanwhile aurther merlin and guais are hiding in a cave. because thats what you do when your life's over. you hide in a cave.

and thats all i will say on the finale unless you want more.

I think that pretty much all have been said but I'll add one more thing ;D. There's a really powerful scene near the end of 3x13 with Morgana and I totally LOVED it. Merlin and Arthur together with Leon, Lancelot, Gwaine, Elyan (Gwen's brother) and Percival (who are now all knights - as Arthur made them ones) get into Camelot to save Uther and steal the cup of life. They fight with immortal knights while Lancelot and Merlin search for a cup and there's a scene when Merlin almost has it but before he can reach for it, Morgause runs into the chamber and throws him on the wall. (I think) she's about to kill him but suddenly Gaius appears (almost out of nowhere) and uses his magic to throw her on the wall, then Merlin does it too and Morgause lies unconscious on the ground.
Then Morgana runs into the chamber and when she sees her sister like that she starts to cry. And OMG, what happens now is just so powerful, I think it might be my favourite scene this season - Katie did such a fantastic job, I can't even...
she cries over Morgause, who looks pretty much dead and Merlin tells her it's over but Morgana tells him it's just a beginning and screams, at the same time using her magic. It's so amazing because there's so much pain and grief in her screams and her magic bursts out, so everything around them starts to fall and windows break.

That's the ep that I stopped watching, too! I was like, "Fuck you, I still ship it. INCEST!" I mean, I've always shipped them before in other reincarnations, whether they're related or not. But fail!retcon is fail.

Ahahahahahaha, that was my reaction too! I was all, 'DAAAMN, don't tell me I watched this whole show wrong with your retcon of fail!' There was waaaaaaay too much thrown in there by KM and BJ AND THE PTBS THEMSELVES FFS! Bastards. I always ship them too, they are too epic to not ship them. I'll probably ship them in that new adult!Merlin show too. Eva Green AND Jamie Campbell Bower?! How can I say 'no'?!
